ENGAGING IN DIALOGUE

Supporting Reconciliation through the Arts

CHALLENGE

The Canada Council for the Arts is administering {Re}conciliation - a “groundbreaking initiative which aims to promote artistic collaborations that look to the past and future for new dialogues between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples in Canada”.

In its inaugural year, the three project partners brought artists together from across Canada to engage in dialogue about reconciliation, to advance their thinking about their projects and creative process, and begin to organize how to follow through on commitments to the project and each other.

SOLUTION

We designed and facilitated the three-day retreat. We also created portraits of participants’ hopes for the retreat, the meaning of (re)conciliation, and gratitude for the experience to reflect and connect their multiple perspectives in one holistic image.

This powerful gathering was a time of healing, connection, and creativity. The partners and artists also created a shared language on the topic of (re)conciliation.
